Catalyst Waterproof Case for iPhone 6 Ships This Weekend

I just got word that the Catalyst rugged and waterproof case for the iPhone 6 will start shipping this weekend — iPhone 6 owners have had few waterproof options until recently. iPhone 6 Plus owners will have to wait a little longer: The Catalyst case for iPhone 6 Plus will ship in March. And who, exactly, is Catalyst Lifestyle anyway, the company behind the Catalyst waterproof case line? It’s a small company founded by a pair of adventurers, Josh Wright and June Lai, who delivered their first waterproof case in 2011 and has followed up with a variety of accessories.

Meanwhile, the Catalyst case is rated IP-68 against water and dust, plus it’s rated down to an amazing 16.4 feet. It meets the military 810G shock and drop-test standard.

Touch ID works, too.

One nice feature of Catalyst cases is an attachment point for a wrist lanyard or floating lanyard — no one wants to watch a waterproofed iPhone sink to the bottom of a river or lake.

List price direct from Catalyst is $69.99.

Previous versions from Catalyst Lifestyle have gotten generally good reviews — look for an initial review from Wicked Cool Bite soon.

I've been writing about the tech industry since the birth of the email newsletter, and I still remember the clacking Mac keyboards from high school -- Apple's seed-planting strategy at work. I'm a big fan of elegant gear and great tech, but there's something to be said for turning it all off -- or most of it -- to go outside. Online I like to call out cool stuff on Wicked Cool Bite and blog with my buddies at Man Makes Fire. To catch me, take a "firstnamelastname" guess at the url of this site.
