Flyover City Tours Coming in iOS 8, Beta ‘Example’ Is Gorgeous

If you haven’t had a chance to watch this flyover video of Paris from the tech behind the new Flyover City Tours feature coming in iOS 8, check it out now. Definitely cool stuff here. It was revealed by developer Pierre Blazquez who found this short flyover video hidden in an iOS beta release. Mac4Ever published it first.

The video shows the Apple Maps app guiding the view into and over two Paris landmarks, the Notre Dame cathedral and Pantheon (but not the Eiffel Tower in this little tour piece). Apple has had Flyover built into its Maps app for quite awhile now for many major cities and landmarks, but the effect is manual — you have to swipe, tap, zoom, tilt, and rotate to explore the city and landmarks.

I've been writing about the tech industry since the birth of the email newsletter, and I still remember the clacking Mac keyboards from high school -- Apple's seed-planting strategy at work. I'm a big fan of elegant gear and great tech, but there's something to be said for turning it all off -- or most of it -- to go outside. Online I like to call out cool stuff on Wicked Cool Bite and blog with my buddies at Man Makes Fire. To catch me, take a "firstnamelastname" guess at the url of this site.
