March Madness NCAA App Gets the Job Done

NCAA March Madness Live app delivers the tourney games to your iPhone or iPad.

The NCAA March Madness Live app is pretty good, no doubt about it. It lets you stream live NCAA basketball tournament games free from your mobile device. It works via WiFi or via your cellular service connection, and while it’s a far cry from an HDTV in your living room, it’s better than being stuck somewhere you can’t watch the games. Any downsides? Yes, there’s a downside: While all the CBS games are free to watch anytime, you’ve got to have a cable or satellite TV service to watch any games on TBS, TNT, and truTV — and validate the app for those games. Fortunately, you get a four-hour window to watch before you’re prompted to validate, which is only annoying and a far cry from an incentive to shell out for some cable TV package you don’t want or need.

Check out my more detailed review or just download the app in case you’re out and about while the Sweet Sixteen is playing.

I've been writing about the tech industry since the birth of the email newsletter, and I still remember the clacking Mac keyboards from high school -- Apple's seed-planting strategy at work. I'm a big fan of elegant gear and great tech, but there's something to be said for turning it all off -- or most of it -- to go outside. Online I like to call out cool stuff on Wicked Cool Bite and blog with my buddies at Man Makes Fire. To catch me, take a "firstnamelastname" guess at the url of this site.
