TYLT calls the slim case a protective case, but it’s not a rugged cased. As a standalone case, it’s about average in thickness and coverage with a slightly raised bezel, which lets you rest it face down on tables and such. TYLT calls the main battery case a battery sleeve. When your iPhone is wearing the protective case, you can slide it into the sleeve over the built-in Lightning plug. Once connected, the unit stays together and feels rigid.
So how is it to hold? As it turns out, the seam between the protective case and the battery sleeve greatly enhances your grip — the edge gives you tactile feedback that makes it easier to move the whole unit in your hand to find buttons or orient it for use.
To charge your iPhone, you simply press and hold a button on the rear of the case to start the charging process. Once your iPhone battery reaches 100 percent, the Energi case automatically turns off, preserving any remaining charge so you can use it again. Four little LED lights indicate the basic level of charge left in the battery case.
The battery capacity is 3,200 mAh, which more than doubles your iPhone 6 battery, which is rated at 1,810 mAh. In real-world use, this means you can drop your iPhone 6 battery down to 0 percent, fully recharge it, and then still have a decent backup charge left over to use. In case you’re wondering, most good battery cases tend to range from 2,600-to-3,300 mAh, which offers a good power-to-weight ratio.
The case comes with a Micro-USB charge and sync cable, which does what you would expect it to. When you plug it all in, your iPhone will charge first, followed by the case (or you can charge the battery sleeve without the iPhone slipped in at all).

Best Battery Case Ever?
The TYLT Energi Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6 (and 6 Plus) uses one of the handiest battery case designs available.
Usually, I find any full-size battery case obnoxiously large . . . but when I’m on the go, away from easy car chargers or plugins, a good battery case is usually worth the weight. I also appreciate a good battery case when I’m bingeing on a new TV series and simply don’t want to lean against some wall plugged into a cord. So yes, this means you can stay up way too late at night in bed . . . without worrying about running out of battery before the show ends. Sad, I know, but hey, many of us have been there. Who wants to run out of battery half-way through an episode of True Detective or Game of Thrones?
All in all, the TYLT Energi Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6 is my all-time favorite battery case. The sliding design improves my grip. The battery brings me plenty of extra charge. And the sliding case design? In an instant, I can have my light and pocketable iPhone 6 back, ready to run. When people ask me for a battery case recommendation, TYLT is at the top of my list.
