The release of the next-generation iPhone is coming soon, but a slew of rumors seem to show a new budget-friendly iPhone with a softly rounded polycarbonate case in a basic iPhone 5 form factor might be on the way. I find the soft edges annoying, but survivable . . . until you pair them with some seriously nasty colors. Gone are the bright and rich colors that typify Apple’s design sensibility — at least according to the supply chain rumor photos. I’m hoping the colors are from a bad batch of cases thrown out to the curb . . . or that Tim Cook is doubling down on secrecy with a supply-chain test.
