Stocking stuffers are usually inexpensive little gifts — but not always. Sometimes they’re just small of size and slipped into the stocking as a surprise, hidden from wondering eyes that might figure out what the gift is if it sits for a week or two underneath a tree.

Most of these stocking stuffers are both small and relatively inexpensive, but a couple of the options — like a Bluetooth speaker — could scale up in cost, as could a great pair of in-ear headphones. And then there is the question of the size of your family’s stockings — we’ve seen some monster stockings (which don’t always get filled) that give Santa plenty of room to work with. If this is the case for you, consider checking out:

In the meantime, here’s 15 stocking stuffers for iPhone Lovers in 2014:

1. iPhone Case

A new, different, or better case makes a good stocking stuffer for an iPhone lover.

The most widely loved stocking stuffer idea for iPhone lovers is a case — and it may always be a case. The options are seemingly endless, but they also let you choose something that fits your iPhone lover. A case can be deeply personal . . . or not so much. Lots of iPhone owners are willing to try something new. For instance, a rugged case for outdoor adventures can come in handy while a slim case is perfect for a night on the town. And teenage girls, it seems, like to swap out cases more often than some boys change their socks. You can play it safe and go with a similar kind of case that they already own and have beaten up . . . or offer a different option altogether. To get some ideas, check out the Wicked Cool Bite case roundups for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus — most of the case designs also come in similar iPhone 5/5s versions, too:

2. Tripod

Joby GripTight GorillaPod Smartphone Tripod Stand XL

The iPhone is the world’s most popular camera, but it doesn’t ship with a tripod, which you can use for group shots or selfies with a timer app or remote shutter button (see #15 below). Better still, a dad can set up an iPhone on a tripod in the back yard and record video while playing with the kids (instead of just chasing them around with an iPhone). Or you can record yourself reading a real book to small kids and let them watch when you’re off traveling for work. At home, tripods work for time lapse shots, too — set it up to capture the family at dinner time to then send along to grandma — or set it up to watch the sun set and the moon rise. Tripods. Wow. So versatile. Try the Joby GripTight GorillaPod Stand XL.

3. Rechargeable Battery Charger

Anker 2nd Gen Astro Mini USB battery charger

These battery packs are great for travelers — or teenagers who can’t seem to pay attention to battery life until they have no way to phone home. Try the best-selling Anker 2nd Gen Astro Mini for all-around excellence in a small package at a great price or try the massive 15,000mAh RAVPower 3rd Gen Deluxe Dual USB Charger for the huge capacity. Another option is the Tylt Energi 5K+ Battery Pack with Built-In Lightning and Micro-USB Cables, which has a built-in Lightning cable as well as a Micro-USB cable (for Android buddies or other gadgets) so your iPhone lover isn’t out of luck if they misplace their Lightning cable (see #5).

4. Bluetooth Speaker

JAM Classic Bluetooth Wireless Speaker

A mini wireless Bluetooth speaker connects to your iPhone and streams music or audio. They are ultra portable and are surprisingly good for their size, perfect for small rooms or on-the-go iPhone users. The tend to have rechargeable batteries and charge via USB cables. If you want music in the shower, you can take the speaker in the bathroom but leave your iPhone somewhere else within wireless range so the moist air doesn’t enter your iPhone. Try the affordable JAM Classic Bluetooth Wireless Speaker or the not-quite-so-affordable (but popular stocking “stuffable”) Beats Pill Portable Speaker.

5. Lightning Cable

AmazonBasics Apple Certified Lightning to USB Cable

A new Lightning cable is utilitarian but oh so appreciated. An extra Lightning cable for the car, bedroom, desk, backpack, or kitchen counter is always handy — and maybe the receiver of the gift won’t keep taking yours. The Apple Lighting to USB cable has the smallest plug end, but the AmazonBasics Apple Certified Lightning to USB Cable cost less, are great quality, and come in a handy 6-foot option for those odd placements away from an electrical outlet.

6. USB Charger Plugs

Powergen 2.4-Amp (12 Watt) Dual USB Wall Charger

The simple little USB charger plug is eternally handy and “extras” are always welcome. Why? Teenagers (and roommates and spouses) are forever taking them to far off places and forgetting to return them. Check out the Powergen 2.4-Amp (12 Watt) Dual USB Wall Charger or the Tylt Energi 2K Travel Charger with Built-In Battery for a rechargeable battery as well as charger plug option.

7. Goldie CableKeep

Lightning cables have a tendency to get in the way. There’s no great way to keep them out of the way when you don’t need them but keep them handy for easy use. But the little Goldie CableKeep makes an effort that’s fun and handy both. Made to fit Apple’s 5W USB Power Adapter, the Goldie CableKeep gobbles up the adapter in the mouth and lets you wrap the cord around the tail.

8. Car Charger

Anker 24W 2-Port Rapid USB Car Charger with PowerIQ Technology

Drivers need iPhone power, too, and their USB car chargers get lost or break. If your iPhone lover is using their iPhone as a GPS navigation system with a dash mount (see #13), having on-board power is critical. Besides, with more than one person in a car, you need more ports. Try the dual-port Anker 24W 2-Port Rapid USB Car Charger with PowerIQ Technology.

9. Screen Protector

ZAGG InvisibleShield Glass screen protector

If your iPhone owner’s screen protector is scratched or bubbly, get them a new one. The ZAGG InvisibleShield HDX has layers that offer a bit of extra drop protection. The Power Support Anti-Glare Film Set offers excellent anti-glare features for iPhone lovers who also use their iPhones outside in sunshine (see #14). A third option is a new “glass” screen protector, which is made of glass and retains that cool glassy feel — perfect for fussy iPhone users who prefer a naked iPhone screen but could benefit from the protection anyway. Try the ZAGG InvisibleShield Glass.

10. Earbuds

Bose Freestyle Earbuds

In-ear headphones will fit in the smallest stocking and they come in an astounding variety of types and price points, often with a built-in mic that lets you make iPhone calls through the earbuds. Try the insanely decent-yet-affordable Panasonic RPTCM125K, the Sony MDRXB50AP Extra Bass Earbud Headset, or the sport-ready Sennheiser ADIDAS Sennheiser OCX685i Earphones. A higher-end option? Try the Bose Freestyle Earbuds.

11. iPhone Macro Lenses

Olloclip 4-in-1 Lens Solution for iPhone 5/5s

While Olloclip is one of the best lens options for the iPhone 5/5s, it means you have to take your iPhone out of its case to use it. Still cool, though. A version for the iPhone 6 is in development, but there’s an option for a macro lens that fits most any smartphone camera — the Easy-Macro Lens Band, which is designed for most any smartphone owner who wants to take some close up shots of small things with ease. As for teenagers, if this band can help them explore their world beyond texting with friends or playing games, well, that’s a win for sure.

12. Stand

13. Car Mount

15. Wireless Shutter Button

I've been writing about the tech industry since the birth of the email newsletter, and I still remember the clacking Mac keyboards from high school -- Apple's seed-planting strategy at work. I'm a big fan of elegant gear and great tech, but there's something to be said for turning it all off -- or most of it -- to go outside. Online I like to call out cool stuff on Wicked Cool Bite and blog with my buddies at Man Makes Fire. To catch me, take a "firstnamelastname" guess at the url of this site.
